a meeting of two blogs

Phew! I finally finished adding my other blog's posts to Nature ID. I lost a couple pics and comments along the way (despite blogger/blogspot's assurances that all would remain intact), but I'm fine with that. I'm still working on fixing my labels and embedded links. Here are a few of my recently moved old posts and labels:

sentimental about seasons
sunrises
sunsets
artsy photos
crappy photos
travel version of Nature ID
yakety yak

This little hobby of mine has turned into a piece of work. My self-imposed rules for Nature ID were becoming limiting, hence the reason why I decided to combine my blogs. Compared to some of the bloggers out there, I'm relatively new to the scene with only 16 months of blogging under my belt. I'm still learning the etiquette of the blog-o-sphere.

Quite honestly, I never thought anyone would read my blather, let alone comment, but, someone, namely Biobabbler, felt I was worth mentioning and awarded me a blog badge, which I now proudly display in my sidebar. Again, thank you, bb! While I'm not up for taking the time to adhere to the award's guidelines (I feel it's a new generation of the old-fashioned chain letter without the bad joojoo), I will make the following comments:

a) I don't particularly like writing or taking photographs. Nature blogging seems contrary to this dislike, but I also like learning new things and I love the community of nature aficionados that blogging has exposed me to.

b) I regularly link to bloggers and posts that I find "good," without fancy-schmancy awards. However, maybe I should let them know more often as I'm fairly shy about commenting on other people's blogs.

c) Here's a short list (considering I regularly check in on over 350 blogs, this is short!) of my favorite bloggers, nature-related or not, and in no particular order:

Blue Jay Barrens
Posie Gets Cozy
Wanderin' Weeta
The Zen of Motherhood
Meanwhile in a valley in the Coast Ranges...
Indian flowers and herbs
A Yankee-in-Belgrade
John Wall's Natural California
The Max Files
The Skeptical Moth
Xenogere
Bread on the Water
The Speckled Wood Calendar
Phyte Club

Hi, Katie. Thanks for the mention. It's funny how much stuff accumulates in a blog. It's like a closet that you keep throwing stuff into and one day you're overwhelmed by the amount of stuff you have.

I enrolled my blog in the Google Analytical service and find it really interesting how people come to find my blog. I have new people show up each week because they were looking for information on Baby Snapping Turtles or Mole Crickets.

I'm busy catching up on the items you moved into this blog.

Hey, Steve. Can I send you more stuff for your closet? I have several old OH nature books that I thought you might like to peruse. Feel free to keep them if you like, or pass them along to someone else who might enjoy seeing them. Please let me know if you'd like me to send them to you.

ps - I stopped looking at those blog analytic sites long ago. I started forgetting why I was blogging in the first place. I want to keep my true north.

Thanks for the offer, but I seem to already have more books than my closet and bookshelves can hold.

Congrats. I always find your posts interesting. Good luck on keeping up with everything.

Your catching on. I went thru the same broadening issues but finally added a second blog to make the branching out easier.

No problem, Steve. I was just hoping to return the favor for that intertidal inverts book you sent me.

Bill and Troutbirder, do you follow each other's blogs? I think you'd find lots of stuff in common.

Thanks for the mention! I also love seeing lists of other people's favorite blogs, it's the best way to discover cool new ones.

Thanks for the link to my blog!

Like skepticalmoth, I appreciate seeing other people's favourites; there's always an excellent blog or site that I've never run across before.

Chris and Susannah, you're welcome. I love both your blogs and find it amazing you actually read mine, too. I keep two lists of CA and favorite nature blogs in the sidebar towards the bottom of my label lists.

Hey Katie! Other Katie here. Congratulations! That's awesome. And thanks as well for the shout out. It's inspiring knowing you are doing somewhat similar things (sans the metal, I know, and with a lot more natural creatures, and without the SF concrete....but still in the same spirit, I think) just down the Coast. It's like keeping an eye on all corners of the bioregion and getting to tell your friends all about it...At the risk of being totally trite, keep up the good work!

Katie, when you do head down our way, please let us know. I'd be happy to show you around. You've started a very cool and a very well-written blog. I'm looking forward to seeing what your housemate silk-screened with the "reduced" Guinness. I don't drink much beer, nor listen to metal, but my hubby does.
