which reader?

With the upcoming demise of Google Reader, I need to find a new blog reader.  What site are you using for your feeds?  Please comment.  Thanks!

Gee, I don't know what I am using nor if this is going to affect me or not. Sorry for not being able to advise but I don't understand it all so maybe I will learn from what you find out.

Feedly. It's integrated with google reader for an easy switch, and the design is aesthetically pleasing :)

I was wondering the same thing. I'll have to check out Feedly.

Okay, you got me to wondering so I Googled it, as it seems that these days anything you want to know you Google it. Some examples came up and I see that is not what I use. In fact the Reader format looked very awkward to me to use anyway. I keep up with posts made by the bloggers I follow simply by clicking on the big orange square on my blog page with what I assume is the letter "B" on it and all the posts made by those blogs I follow come in as they are posted. Hopefully this is what you were wondering about.

I've tried Feedly and theoldreader.com

I really like the look of Feedly
http://www.feedly.com/
but found it a bit unwieldy for managing a large number of RSS feeds. It looks like they have improved it a bit and toned down some of the overwhelming designy elements.

I have been trying out The Old Reader http://theoldreader.com/
It is pretty ugly but has some better social sharing utilities. It seems the most "familiar" for a hardcore, long time google reader addict -- but also a little chintzy. It also took FOREVER to migrate my subscriptions over (but a nice feature for both this and Feedly that I don't have to reassemble the hundreds of RSS feeds I've compiled over the last half decade or so).

I think it's telling that

Not sure where I'll end up. Planning to ride Google Reader off the cliff and see where I land.

I use Feedly now. It's a little more complicated to use than Google Reader, but it seems to give more options regarding layout etc. The switchover was seamless.

I'm using Feedly too. Think a lot of people will because you don't have to do much to make it work...

I'm with Sinbad. I register blogs I am following on my Blogger Dashboard and check the feed there. Somehow I got lazy and stopped using Google Reader. By checking my email separately from my fav blogs, I am able to separate the parts of the day that I check one or the other, and not spend too much time I don't have. Although now I am really curious about Feedly and I am wondering if you have to set that up before the demise of Google Reader to get the transition to go smoothly. Great topic Katie. I really like it when a post starts conversations with so much good info.

I use bloglines!

Thanks, everyone, for your input! I figured us bloggers are all in the same boat.

In the week after Google first announced its reader retirement, Feedly wasn't accepting any new accounts. Maybe they got slammed with Takeouts. Now, it looks promising.

My husband has been using the reader on Yahoo, and he says they've made vast improvements in the past 3 months. He thinks the head Yahoo lady had something to do with the Google Reader when she was still over there.

Anon, canned response much? Do you work for Feedly?

Ha, John SaIotL, I didn't know you could click on the B button. Once I accumulated more than 20 blog followings, I found the dashboard's reading list to be very limited.

Neil, we found The Old Reader did not accept Takeout well and failed after repeated attempts.

Cindy, get the transfer set up before July 1!

Katie, will check out bloglines, but I'm leaning toward Feedly.

I'm worried this is the writing on the wall. How soon will it be that Google decides to hang up blogspot/blogger?

Yikes, why is google doing this? Will they really cancel blogspot? I tried Wordpress blogging format in a class and thought it was elegant but I am too busy to save/switch. Panic in the blogosphere.

Oh, no. Don't freak out, Cindy. I haven't heard anything, but it's not outside the realm of possibility. It is a free service after all.

Well, this is a bit out-of-the-blue! I didn't know anything about this, but to be fair, it could've been any colour and I wouldn't have known. Fortunately for me, you didn't mention it until after I went on holiday, otherwise I would just have fretted :o) Though it looks like I now have to cram my technophobe angst into 12 days! See you all on the other side...

Graeme, I wonder if you have something different available across the pond?

Cindy, I set up Feedly before I left town and will take the time to organize later, but at least I have some things saved.

Like Neil, I'm going to use Google Reader until it's no more.
