home again, home again, jiggety-jig

Mt. Shasta
(from Hwy 97)

Yippee!!! I haven't been this happy to see a California landmark, like Mt. Shasta, in at least 10 years. The volcano looks very different from this highway with Shastina clearly visible to the right, as opposed to the usual I-5 route. It's good to be home.

Welcome back!

If I remember the rhyme correctly, have you've been buying a well-fed pig?

Thanks, Graeme! We may have not bought a fat pig, but we sure came back as well-fed ones ourselves :p

=) What a delightful post title. Glad you're in a happy place. Certainly is a stunning, GRAND landscape.

I had a similar experience last month, coming back from Oregon, driving, driving....and then when I saw the mountain, I had hope! And I realized how much I love it!

bb, the Cascades and Olympic Mountains played a big role on our trip. Makes me think I should give the Sierras another try - if nothing else, certainly closer to home.

Gretchen, for some reason I really like driving N/S through OR. The 101, I-5, and 97 all have incredible views. On our way up, I-5 had a cheery proliferation of white flowers (daisies and possibly meadowfoam). So pretty.

I noticed those daisies - some were taller and waving in the breeze, and some more low to the ground...we were passing by so quickly I couldn't take the time to stop and try to identify very many flowers, but those waving daisies, and the short lupines on Hwy 97 made for mile after mile of visual feast!

Gretchen, I'm still looking for the 55mph roadside wildflower ID book organized by hwy and month. So many flowers whiz by too quickly to get a good look. The lupine was a great treat since our coastal versions bloom much earlier in the year.
